Install the shared PCIe dual adapters

Use this information to install the shared PCIe dual adapters.

Before you install the shared PCIe dual adapters:
  1. Read the following section(s) to ensure that you work safely.
  2. Power off all the compute nodes and peripheral devices (see Power off the compute node).

  3. Disengage all the compute nodes from the enclosure.

  4. Disconnect the power cords and all external cables from the rear of the enclosure.

  5. If the cable management arm is installed, remove it (see Remove the cable management arm).

  6. Remove the shuttle from the enclosure (see Remove the shuttle).

  7. Locate the PCIe slots to install the adapters into.

    Note:
    1. To ensure sufficient space for the cable:
      1. Before installing the adapters into PCIe slot 3-A and 1-B, make sure slot 1-A is empty.

      2. Before installing the adapters into PCIe slot 4-A and 2-B, make sure slot 2-A is empty.

If not, remove the adapter that is installed in the slot (see Remove a low-profile PCIe x8 adapter).
    2. When one or more pairs of shared PCIe dual adapters are installed in the shuttle, make sure slot 3-B and 4-B are both empty.

  8. Touch the static-protective package that contains the adapter to any unpainted metal surface on the solution; then, remove the adapter from the package.

Complete the following steps to install the shared PCIe dual adapters.

Install the shared PCIe dual adapters into PCIe slot 3-A and 1-B

  1. Rotate the retention bracket of the top and bottom PCIe slots (3-A and 1-B) to the open position.
  2. If expansion-slot covers and screws are installed in these slots, remove them.

Install the shared PCIe dual adapters into PCIe slot 4-A and 2-B

  1. Rotate the retention bracket of the top and bottom PCIe slots (4-A and 2-B) to the open position.
  2. If expansion-slot covers and screws are installed in these slots, remove them.

After you install the shared PCIe dual adapters, complete the following steps.

  1. Fasten the two screws if necessary.
Note: Make sure to fasten the screws if the solution will undergo vibration or transportation.
  2. Rotate the two retention brackets to the locked position.

  3. Reinstall the shuttle (see Install the compute node cover).

Note: To prevent from jamming the shared PCIe dual adapters cable into the fan, make sure to route the cable between the two adapters before installing the shuttle.
  4. If the cable management arm is removed, reinstall it (see Install the cable management arm).

  5. Reconnect the power cords and any cables that you removed.

  6. Push all compute nodes back into the enclosure (see Install a compute node in the enclosure).

  7. Turn on all compute nodes.
