Disassemble the compute node for recycle

Follow the instructions in this section to disassemble the compute node for recycle.

About this task
Attention: Read the Installation guidelines to ensure that you work safely.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Turn off the corresponding compute node on which you are going to perform the task.
    2. Remove the compute node from the enclosure (see Remove a compute node from the enclosure).
  2. Remove all of the existing components from the compute node and install them into the replacement compute node (see Replace a defective compute node).
Note: Make sure to install the drives and memory modules to their corresponding drive bay or slot in the replacement compute node.
  3. Remove the CMOS battery (see Remove the CMOS battery (CR2032)).
  4. Remove the two M.2 backplane guide pins with a screwdriver.

  5. Remove the following 14 screws that secure the system board to the compute node tray.
    • Twelve Phillips #1 screws on the system board (with a torque screwdriver set to the proper torque).

Note: For reference, the torque required to fully loosen or tighten the screws is 0.5-0.6 newton-meters, 4.5-5.5 inch-pounds.
    • Two jackscrews on the front of the compute node tray.
      Note:
      • Use a 2.5x0.4mm flat head screwdriver to remove and install jackscrews.

      • For reference, the torque required to fully loosen or tighten the jackscrews is 0.059 newton-meters, 0.52 inch-pounds.

  6. Remove the two screws that secure the rear bracket; then, remove the bracket from the compute node tray.

  7. Tilt the system board at an angle and gently slide the system board backwards and lift it out of the compute node tray.

After you finish

After disassembling the compute node, comply with local regulations when recycling it.
