Install the system board assembly

Use this information to install the system board assembly.

Attention: Removing and installing this component requires trained technicians. Do no attempt to remove or install it without proper training.
Before you install a system board, complete the following steps:
  1. Read the following sections to ensure that you work safely.
  2. Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

To install the system board, complete the following steps:

  1. Insert the system board into the chassis with an angle as shown.

  2. Push the system board into the server and seat the system board onto the guide pins.

  3. Install the eight screws to secure the system board.

  4. Insert the LOM package into the server at an angle as shown; then, seat the LOM package onto the guide pins.
    Note: Wireless enabled LOM package and 10G SFP+ LOM package are installed with the same method.

  5. Install the six screws to secure the LOM package.

  6. Align the front operator panel with the chassis and insert the panel onto the front of the server.

  7. Install the two screws that secure VGA connector, and install the three screws on the sides of the server.

  8. Install the two screws on the bottom of the server.

  9. Install the following components:

After you install the system board, complete the following steps:

  1. Install the top cover onto the server (see Install the top cover).

  2. Install the node if needed (see Install a compute node).

  3. Reconnect power cords and all external cables.

  4. Re-activate the system, contact Lenovo support at email address: thinkshield@lenovo.com.

  5. Update the Universal Unique Identifier (UUID). See Update the Universal Unique Identifier (UUID).

  6. Update the Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) and DMI/SMBIOS data with new vital product data (VPD). Use the Lenovo XClarity Provisioning Manager to update the UUID and DMI/SMBIOS data. See Update the Universal Unique Identifier (UUID) and Update the DMI/SMBIOS data.

  7. Enable TPM. See Enable TPM.

  8. Optionally, enable Secure Boot.
