ThinkSystem SE350 - Remove the system board assembly

Use this information to remove the system board assembly.

Attention: Removing and installing this component requires trained technicians. Do no attempt to remove or install it without proper training.

Before removing the system board assembly:

Read the following sections to ensure that you work safely.
- Safety
- Installation Guidelines
Record all system configuration information, such as Lenovo XClarity Controller IP addresses, vital product data, and the machine type, model number, serial number, Universally Unique Identifier, and asset tag of the server.
Use the Lenovo XClarity Essentials OneCLI to save the system configuration to external media.
Save the system-event log to external media.

Note: When replacing the system board assembly, always update the server with the latest firmware or restore the pre-existing firmware. Make sure that you have the latest firmware or a copy of the pre-existing firmware before you proceed.
Turn off the server. Disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see Power off the server).
Remove the node from the enclosure if needed (see Remove a compute node).
Remove the top cover (see Remove the top cover).

To remove the system board assembly, complete the following steps:

Remove the following components that are installed on the system board assembly and put them in a safe, static-protective place.
- Disconnect the fan cables (see Remove a fan).
- Remove the air baffle (see Remove the air baffle).
- Remove the PCIe riser assembly (see Remove the PCIe riser assembly).
- Remove the intrusion switch cable (see Remove the intrusion switch cable).
- Remove the M.2 boot adapter (see Remove the M.2 boot adapter).
- Remove the lock position switch if installed (see Remove the lock position switch).
- Remove M.2 WLAN/LTE wireless adapter (see Remove the M.2 WLAN/LTE wireless adapter).
- Disconnect the front operator panel cables (see Remove the front operator panel).
- Remove the TPM card if installed (see Remove the TPM card (for Chinese Mainland only)).
- Remove the power distribution module (see Remove the power distribution module).
- Remove the DIMMs (see Remove a DIMM).
Remove the two screws on the bottom of the server.

Remove the three screws on the sides of the server, and remove the two screws that secure VGA connector.

Remove the front operator panel by pulling it out from the server.

Remove the six screws that secure the LOM package.

Slightly pull the LOM package forward, and lift it up at an angle as shown to remove it from the server.

Note: Wireless enabled LOM package and 10G SFP+ LOM package are removed with the same method.
Remove the eight screws that secure the system board.

Pull the system board forward and lift it up slightly to remove it from the guide pins.

Lift the system board toward the side of the server as shown to remove it from the server.

If you are instructed to return the defective component, please package the part to prevent any shipping damage. Reuse the packaging the new part arrived in and follow all packaging instructions.
